Texas: The Lone Star State |

Stretching out for almost a thousand miles, Texas is easily America's largest state, aside from Alaska. The Texas spirit, sense of pride and independence is evident in its state flag and motto, the Lone Star State. Its modern history begins with Spanish exploration, and its Spanish roots are deeply woven throughout its culture today.
Texas is covered in a variety of natural landscapes. These regions, starting at the Gulf Coast, gradually begin subtle changes in the Hill Country. Further to the west and southwest the rolling hills and high plains give way to the Pecos, Chisos, Guadalupe, and Davis mountains, which dominate the landscape. Fifteen national park sites are spread over the state. And it's no surprise that this huge territory would also feature 107 state parks and nine state byways. |
