Florida Fishermen

The state of Florida, encircled by ocean waters and dotted with thousands of freshwater lakes, is naturally an angler's paradise. The 2006 U.S. Census Bureau's numbers confirm Florida as the leading fishing destination. Non-resident anglers topped 885,000 and easily outrank North Carolina's 385,000 visitors, the country's runner-up.
Florida's offshore waters entice sportfishing boaters with catches of sailfish, dolphin, yellow and blackfin tuna, kings and wahoo. Coastlines, bays and lagoons hold some of the most inshore prized catches, such as the tough fighting snook, redfish, tarpon, permit and bonefish. The ocean's bottom fish and freshwater species add more fishing possibilities and adventures throughout the state's waters.
Caught in this evenin g view is one of Florida's spectacular glowing sunsets that cast a silhouette of two local fishermen, intent on landing the big one. Here at St. Marks Wildlife Refuge anglers know when the sun goes down, the fishing heats up. Here they enjoy fine fishing and with any amount of luck, a spotted sea-trout could be their dinner.
