Key West Sunset
|
Completed in 1938, U.S. Route 1 (the Overseas Highway) connected the Florida mainland with the Florida Keys. Beginning in Key Largo, the 100 mile route to Key West crosses 42 bridges, hopping from key to key. This thin island chain sets an imaginary borderline between the Atlantic and Gulf waters. Surrounded by clear ocean waters, there's plenty of activities to enjoy under the Florida sun.
For the angler, more than 225 game fish species roam the tropical waters. Beachcombing, sunbathing, snorkeling, and kayaking start the list of recreation ideas.
It's sundown in this Key West view, as a kayaker glides across the Gulf waters. As the sun goes down, the celebration begins. Once a spontaneous happening in the 60s, the Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square has grown in a daily ritual. Tourists, artist, musicians, fishermen, entertainers and residents gather to watch another glorious Florida sunset on this paradise isle.
