     One of Maine's principle rivers, the 200 mile long Penobscot, divides the Mid Coast and Downeast-Acadia regions. The Penobscot River can be traced northward to the wild Highlands Region. The West Branch begins in the heart of the Highlands, earning the right of the best place to view and photograph moose in their natural habitat.
     Heading south, the West Branch of the Penobscot River offers some of the wildest river rapids in New England. Known for its fishing and whitewater kayaking, the total number of rapids near 40. Whitewater adventure guides offer the best and safest way to enjoy a trip down the Penobscot.
     This image was captured between Ripogenus Gorge and the Big Eddy. One can only imagine the scenic wonders found along this branch of the wild Penobscot.
