Econlockhatchee River

Econlockhatchee River

The Econlockhatchee River Basin, surrounded by wildlife management area, can be a quiet get-away for residents of the sprawling metropolis of Orlando. This slow flowing river meanders and weaves its way through central Florida and a forest of pine, palmetto and cabbage palms, and eventually emptying into the north-flowing St. Johns River. The Little Big Econ State Forest covers the Little and Big Econ Rivers and provides 5,000 acres of a forest land corridor that couples up with other state lands, extending for a hundred miles.
The remains of a railway and trestle date back to the early 1900s when the first railroad was established by Henry Flagler. Today, this railroad bridge aids Florida Scenic Trail hikers in crossing the Econlockhatchee River. Canoeing, hiking, camping, fishing, horseback riding and mountain biking are the most popular recreational activities in this Outstanding Florida Water Preserve.
