Oregon's coastline is dotted with countless state parks, heritage sites, recreational areas, scenic corridors, wayside parks and ocean overlooks. Following U.S. Route 101, a an All-American Road, is a great way to explore the entire Oregon Coast.
About a quarter of the way up the coast from the California border you'll find Bandon (Bandon-by-the-Sea), one of the many highlights along the coastal highway. This small seaside community is just far enough from I-5 (90 minutes) to retain its charm and scenic beauty. Here where the Coquille River meets the Pacific Ocean, Bandon is all about its unspoiled natural setting on the Pacific Ocean. Visitors may enjoy its broad sandy beaches, the pictureque sea stacks, a variety of shore birds and its blue ocean waters. This peaceful view shows off the beauty found along Bandon Beach, located just south of Coos Bay.
While Bandon is known for its cranberry products, some Bandon guests
may delight in the area's shops, galleries and restaurants in Old Town. Quickly becoming known as Oregon's Golf Coast, other may want to test their skills on one of the area golf courses. Wishing to see more, Beach Loop Drive runs along the coast south of town providing views of some awesome coastal scenery. Check out Face Rock Wayside Park where an old legend will have you listening for a woman’s voice in the wind, looking for her face in the rocks and learning the lore of the Nah-So-Mah Tribe. Just to the north, lighthouse fans will want to visit the newly refurbished Coquille River Lighthouse. Lighthouse visitors should also save some time for Bullard Beach State Park, a family-oriented park. The park offers camping, equestrian sites, yurts and plenty of great king salmon fishing on the Coquille River and bay.
