Lancaster Harvest

October in Pennsylvania Dutch Country puts on a great show of warm, bright colors, from golden ginkgoes, scarlet maples and deep red oaks, to orange pumpkins and bushels of red apples. The long summer days and countless hours of hard work have yielded a rich cornucopia of crops. Jams, relishes, homemade pies, fall flowers and produce can easily be spotted at colorful roadside stands.
The Lancaster area has become a popular get-away during autumn. Warm days and cool nights make for a pleasant stay. Myriads of color can also be found in Lancaster's quilt shops, farmers markets and farms. Handmade quilts are another source of income for the hardworking Amish and Mennonite farmers. Pennsylvania Dutch country has earned the moniker of quilt capitol of the world.
