Autumn in New England

Autumn in New England - Tripp Lake

Autumn in New England sees fall's brilliant colors steadily move southward from mid September through October. Prime conditions in Maine's Western Region usually peak during the first week in October. Maine's visitors flock to see mountainsides and clear blue lakes dressed in colorful foliage, accented with a deep green of evergreens.
New Hampshire's White Mountains drift across the border into western Maine, along U.S. Route 302 near Fryeburg, an area known for its rustic summer camps and charming cottages. This scenic view doubles the rich fall colors around Tripp Lake, one of many picturesque lakes found in the eastern White Mountains area. The first week in October brings out the leaf peepers in mass, as the best sights stretch from Bethel in the west, to Bar Harbor in the east. Maine's hardwoods put on a show of brilliant scarlet, yellows, oranges and deep reds; and travelers from all over the world are there to take in the sights. The advice for this first week in October would be to plan ahead, make reservations and expect a lot of company.
