North Georgia, a very different landscape from the remainder of the state, has become quite popular with mountain lovers. With the Cohuttas to the west and the Blue Ridge on the east, these cool mountain regions make for a wonderful summer retreat. The highlands are covered with thousands of acres of forest land and wilderness areas. Hundreds of miles of hiking trails lead to incredible mountain vistas, dozens of picturesque waterfalls and splendid flowering trees and plants.
Whether you choose a scenic railway tour, one of the scenic byways, or rafting on a wild river, North Georgia's scenery is hard to top. This Picture of the Day captures the springtime mood, with a farmer's field decorated with a sea of wildflowers and the Blue Ridge Mountains peeking over the horizon.
