Myrtle Beach Promenade

Myrtle Beach Promenade - Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

Photos by Ben Prepelka

Mild weather, white sandy beaches and sparkling waters encouraged Myrtle Beach's first developers to build the Seaside Inn in 1901. Inexpensive ocean front lots brought in more residents, calling their beach community New Town. Unsatisfied with a plain name, a contest was held and the name Myrtle Beach was chosen for the area's wax myrtles. Upscale resorts and golf courses followed and soon Myrtle Beach was one of the most popular vacation destinations on the South Carolina Coast.
Known for its amusement rides, miniature golf Myrtle Beach City View and its huge variety of hotels and restaurants, Myrtle Beach continues its fame as a family fun spot. Entertaining 15 million people every year, Myrtle Beach's main attraction has just been updated with a multi-million dollar renovation. Stretching out for over a mile, the Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade connect the 14th Avenue and 2nd Avenue Piers. Now a pleasant beachside pathway, the boardwalk also hosts a variety of summer-long festivals and events. Kids’ carnivals, live concerts, fireworks shows, strolling bands and plenty of boardwalk performers make this new promenade come alive.
