Rock House
|
No doubt that most past legends have been slightly embellished to create a little more drama to a story. And it's no different here at the Rock House, where locals once spun tales of bandits, thieves, bootleggers and murderers, making their hideaway at Robbers Roost.
This Hocking Hills State Park has attracted sightseers since the 1830s. Its deep gorge, lined with moss and ferns, its 200 foot long cave and multi-colored sandstone cliffs put on a stunning show.
The half-mile Rock House loop trail leads down into a ravine by way of a rustic, stone carved stairway. Rock House is one of Hocking Hills State Park areas. The Ohio region is known for its fascinating caves, deep gorges carved by the Hocking River, blackhand sandstone cliffs, waterfalls, towering hemlocks and spectacular hills.
