Stop number 2 on Ohio's Covered Bridge Byway leads sightseers to the site of Ring Mill. Walter and Margaret Ring purchased a parcel of land in Monroe County in 1840. Their stone home quickly followed and still stands today. Soon, their attentions turned to a grist mill on the Little Muskingum River. A sawmill was added by 1850 and continued operation until 1920. Floodwaters destroyed the mill and little evidence remains today.
     Pictured here is the Ring Home, a site that's been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The homestead has undergone stabilization refurbishment, with flooring and roofing replacement. Voluteers and funds are needed for astectic additions. It's be nice to know that the Ring family is still involved with the homestead, and had gathered at the site for a family reunion. Ring Mill is reached by an interesting side route from Route 26 (SR 537 & TR 307) to the east. The byway is well marked with some new signage, but the area was ravaged by floods in 2004 & 2005 and descriptive placards are bare.
     Next up is the first covered bridge on the tour, Knowlton Bridge, starting from the north on Ohio's Route 26.
