Swann Covered Bridge

What this bridge lacks in aesthetics, makes up in its impressive statistics. The Swann Bridge is said to be the longest surviving covered bridge in Alabama. The 324 foot long bridge, built in 1933, is sometimes referred to as the Swann-Joy Bridge. It takes three spans to cross a deep, scenic gorge cut by the Locust Fork of the Black Warrior River. The sagging spans still carry everyday traffic in and out of the community of Joy. Built on Swann farm property, utilizing a lattice truss design, and owned and maintained by the Blount County Commission, the Swan Covered Bridge is one of only eleven remaining covered bridges in Alabama. |
