Point Lobos - California

Recognized for its outstanding coastal scenery, Point Lobos State Natural Reserve is located in California's Monterey County. Described as the "crown jewel" of California parks, the picturesque seaside beauty attracts sightseers, photographers and artists. Also noted for its recreation benefits, scuba divers, joggers, nature lovers, and hikers find the park's natural setting one of a kind.
Offshore among the headlands of Punta de los Lobos Marinos (Point of Sea Wolves), park guests will find one of the richest underwater habitats in the world. Popular with divers, underwater journeys lead through giant kelp forests, loaded with ling cod, cabezon and rockfish. Here, sea otters, harbor seals and sea lions thrive on a cornucopia of sea life. Along the shoreline, park visitors enjoy the raucous chorus of sea wolves, sleek sea otters, harbor seals, and migrating pods of gray whales.
Found just south of Carmel, Point Lobos has a longstanding record of coastal preservation. Its prime location along the California headlands is a special treat for first time visitors. Renamed and expanded in 2007, the park adopted phase one of the Marine Life Protection Act Initiative. Covering over five square miles, the state marine preserve protects all marine life within its boundaries.
With so much to see and do, visitors are reminded not to miss the Whaler's Cabin Museum, Cypress Grove Trail, Bird Island Trail and China Cove.
