Bok Tower

Bok Tower

Photos by Ben Prepelka

Bok Clock      Bok Tower is a magnificent focal point for the Bok Sanctuary Gardens, in Lake Wales, Florida. This 205 foot carillon tower, built in 1927, is among the finest in the world. Made up of marble and coquina rock, this belltower houses 60 bronze bells, weighing over 60 tons. The smallest bell weighs in at 16 pounds and the largest, 11 tons. The keyboard is housed about two-thirds of the way up in the tower and has mechanical connections to the bells. Bell expression (soft/loud) is accomplished by the amount of force applied.
Milford Myhre was a carillonneur for 36 year at Bok Sanctuary and recently retired. William DeTurk, once assistant, is now carillonneur at the Bok Singing Tower.
