Stella Homestead
|
Muted by a light cloud cover and a thin veil of morning frost, this wistful farmland setting was found near the town of Stella, Missouri. Giving way to nature's relentless elements, the old barn and storage crib began leaning a little closer to the earth with each passing year.
As wooden barns are slowly being replaced by modern steel structures, this nostalgic farming landscapes becomes much dearer to our hearts. There is something special about these rustic images that strike a chord within our consciousness.
For some of these decrepit structures, it's just too late. While others, not too far gone, are receiving a second chance. Once a symbol of a prosperous America, barns have now become the focus of reuse plans and a Barn Again preservation movement. Some states have gone to great lengths to count and photograph barns built before 1960. Issuing grants for preservation, the U.S. Department of Agriculture lists over 665,000 working barns over 50 years old. Covering America from coast to coast, nothing stands out more in the countryside than a red barn. Built to last for centuries, uses for old barns are only limited by one's imagination.
