Shoreside Park

America's U.S. Route 1, marked in a shield and a large number one, follows the Atlantic Coast from Fort Kent, Maine, to Florida's Key West. This old highway covers almost 2,400 miles, taking travelers through hundreds of small towns and countless traffic lights. Palm Shores, one of Florida's small towns, population 938, is located on U.S. Route 1 and the Indian River.
This foggy morning scene is often replicated on Florida's cool winter mornings. Caught in silhouette, Florida's state tree (sabal palm) creates a distinctive tropical appearance. Florida's pine trees, an important lumber species, were no match for this icon of Florida tourism. The hearty palm, often called the cabbage palm, is found throughout the state, with its northern boundary nearing the Georgia border.
This Picture of the Day, taken from Palm Shores Shoreside Park, is one of the scenic sights found along the Indian River Lagoon Scenic Byway. The town of Palm Shores purchased two acres of water front property and constructed this fishing pier and picnic area for its residents. This great spot for anglers and nature lovers, saw its ribbon cutting in April, 2006.
