Government surveyors set Colorado's southern border in 1868, followed by the New Mexico and Utah borders ten years later. When Arizona's northern border was laid out in 1901, an unique landmark was established. This intersection is the only place in the United States where the corners of four states meet. A permanent marker was placed in 1912. Eighty years later an elaborate monument was built. Today, a bronze disk is embedded in granite, featuring the state seals and radiating boundary lines. The monument is topped off with official flags and is the only opportunity for visitors to
stand in all four states at once.
