Dillard House

Dillard House

Photos by Ben Prepelka

Petting Zoo Kid It won't be long until it's spring again at Georgia's Dillard House. This Picture of the Day captures last year's plantings of tulips and daffodils in full bloom, signaling winter is once again behind us. The gardeners have kept busy, seeing to the grounds around the original stone house, as well as the cottages and chalets in this spacious mountain setting.
Petting Zoo The Dillard house land grant dates to 1794 when Captain John Dillard was awarded 1,000 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The Dillard heirs established the Dillard House in 1917, providing southern style home cookin and hospitality. The Dillard House, now called the Oaklawn Inn, has entertained a long list of luminaries, including Lady Bird Johnson to Walt Disney. Along with the family style restaurant, the Dillard House has become a major tourist attraction, with hotel rooms, tennis courts, a riding stable and a kid friendly petting zoo.
