Devils Tower Junction

Devils Tower Junction

Photos by Ben Prepelka

With reference to the Black Hills, one quickly associates the forest land Devils Tower
Wyomingwith the famous hills surrounding Mount Rushmore. Devils Tower Junction, found across the South Dakota border into Wyoming, is also surrounded by the Black Forest, dressed with its distinctive black pines and rolling prairie. The Devils Tower and Little Missouri Buttes were created by molten magma flows. The softer, surrounding sedimentary landscape was slowly eroded and carried off with the waters of the Belle Fourche (pretty fork) River.
The Devils Tower area features hiking trails, rock climbing, camping and horseback riding. Some of the trails and buildings in Devils Tower National Monument date back to the depression era, when CCC workers built roads, facilities and carved out miles of trails.
