Hooper Strait Lighthouse

Hoopers Strait Lighthouse

Still referred as the Hooper Strait Lighthouse, this beacon has been moved about 45 miles north of the strait and now graces the grounds of the Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. Another historic building slated for demolition was saved with some savvy negotiations by the folks at the Maritime Museum.
Today, the Maryland lighthouse that sits up on screw-jacks, is located along the Miles River. Here at the museum grounds, the light casts it warm glow just as it had 85 years ago. For years the beacon made a wonderful greeting for weary fisherman returning from the Chesapeake Bay. The museum invites all to hear the tales of the watermen and take in, first-hand, the heritage and culture of the Bay. The town of Saint Michaels also lights up the evening along the Eastern Shore, creating this inviting scene.
