A Day Out With Thomas Gallery

Here in eastern Pennsylvania, the Strasburg Rail Road celebrates 50 years since its return of steam power to America’s oldest short-line. This rail-line, founded in 1832, entertains rail fans from all around the globe. Across Gap Road, the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania provides a lineup of vintage locomotives and railroad memorabilia. An interesting tidbit of Strasburg Railway history includes a train schedule from 1851.
One of the special train runs, featuring Thomas the Tank Engine, creates a lot of excitement among the younger crowd. The bright blue engine, with its lovable human face, has entertained children since 1946. Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends was created by Rev. W.V. Awdry. His book series, with a distinct British flavor, related stories based on Awdry’s personal experiences. Britt Allcroft furthered Thomas the Tank Engine’s fame when she brought these stories to life on television in 1984. This award winning production quickly gained fame around the world, amusing both the young and old Thomas and Friends fans.
A Day Out With Thomas events start in Strasburg, Pennsylvania, during mid June, 2010.
